Many ;-). First of all, LIST didn't even return INBOX, which suggests that it hasn't been set up correctly. Did you check the logs? That would be the first place to look for an error. You're using xinetd, so I'd check /var/log/messages. If this doesn't give any answers, please post your configuration and run files (xinetd files) to this list, including a description of where you expect the mailboxes to be located / how your mail system is configured.
