It's not a race condition as such in my case at least, because I configured 
exactly one MUA (KMail) to access my IMAP accounts, and got the error on a 
continual basis (varied a bit, but anywhere between once every 30 minutes to 
several times every 5...).

This is the same thing I mentioned here and reported to the dev list on the 
15th without response.  You can find more detail here:  
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102717 (I initially thought it was a 
KMail bug).
