I setup qmail and vpopmail without much trouble but I can’ get IMAP working for the life of me.

I am setting it up on Fedora Core 3

I followed the qmail rocks installation for qmail and vpopmail.

Qmailrocks recommends courier but courier won’t compile on Fedora Core. It requires Authlib which in turn requires FAM which is an orphaned project and has been removed from FC3.

http://www.jms1.net/courier/no-fam.shtml explains how to build courier-imap RPMs without fam.

i hate to use the binc-imap list to point this out, but i don't remember seeing a question about this on the qmailrocks list- in fact i don't remember seeing you there at all.

i've been watching binc for a long time. it seems to be a good solution and it's certainly easy to set up, but until i know that binc works with as many clients as courier, including the IDLE thing that keeps popping up on the list here, i can't switch. i've got clients using every email program under the sun (including a few running on sun boxes, pun intended) and courier is the only thing that they ALL work with (other than UW-IMAP, which i refuse to use because the author refuses to add support for maildirs.)

i'm not saying this to try and push you away from binc- by all means, if you can get binc working with vpopmail, great. but if it doesn't work out for you, this web page explains how to get courier-imap working without requiring fam, which gives you another option.
