I'm using Mutt (1.5.9i) to test, after which we'll try out other clients we use here.

So am I.

Is this a bug with binc, or Mutt? Has anyone seen this, and is there a fix or workaround? My transition to binc won't fly if the local Mutt users can't navigate without pain.

Technically, it's a bug in neither. Mutt's IMAP support requires the CHILDREN IMAP extension to operate the way you want, and stable Binc doesn't support any extensions. If you feel like testing out Binc 1.3.x, it already supports the CHILDREN extension, and should work the way you want.

Technically, in mutt, hitting the return key on a folder to see its contents is a shortcut. After all, a folder with children can indeed contain mail. You're *supposed* to use the spacebar to "select" a folder, but mutt put a shortcut in for if a folder has no subfolders. The thing is, mutt requires the CHILDREN extension to make that decision (it doesn't do a "list all folders" to find out that information).

Hope that helps,

~Kyle
