This is mostly just me wondering if this is just a "me" issue or
whether this is endemic of BIND on OSX.
I use BIND as distributed by brew.sh on OSX (14.7.6, M2 Pro) for local
testing of various things and ran into an issue last week. When I
configured BIND to listen on an alternate port (1053 or 2053 or ...,
you get the idea), after a few queries, it would cause a panic and
thus a reboot of my computer.
Definitely not just a "you" issue. I saw this last September because I
was using named -- installed with brew -- as part of the tests
associated with the DNSViz package for Homebrew. The package tests
start named on a custom port and issue queries to it. Running those
tests crashed the entire test system [1]. I didn't spend time looking
more into it, and I forgotten about it until I read this message... I'm
curious what is causing that full system crash.
We have identified MacOS kernel bug and reported it to Apple many months
ago, but it goes unfixed for a long time. Complain to Apple support ...
