The easy way is by knowing what you ask for :-) For example, if you want to 
measure your nameservers potential speed, you could ask only for things it has 
in its cache. How do you know what it has cached? You could make it master or 
slave a zone and ask for data from that, or you could prime the cache by doing 
some queries before you start the benchmarking.

Oh btw, there are a few things you might want to look at while doing that 
benchmark, such as:

- CPU usage
- latency (how long does it take to get a reply)
- packet loss / lost queries
