Hi, I'm running BIND 9.18.29 on OpenBSD 7.5, installed from ports. It does recursion and resolving for a small home network.

Multiple times a day, clients will make a DNS request that fails. The web browser will say it can't find the address (DNS lookup failure). Hitting retry a couple of times always loads the page. We're seeing this on Linux, Windows, Android, and IOS, multiple browsers, plus other software.

In the query log, we get messages like:

10-Sep-2024 20:42:26.995 query-errors: info: client @0x4c4fd33a280 10.0.0.131#38139 (forum.openwrt.org): query failed (failure) for forum.openwrt.org/IN/A at query.c:7836 10-Sep-2024 20:42:26.995 query-errors: info: client @0x4c5223d5280 10.0.0.131#41441 (forum.openwrt.org): query failed (failure) for forum.openwrt.org/IN/AAAA at query.c:7836 10-Sep-2024 20:42:26.996 query-errors: info: client @0x4c576ab4280 10.0.0.131#60286 (forum.openwrt.org): query failed (SERVFAIL) for forum.openwrt.org/IN/A at query.c:7098 10-Sep-2024 20:42:26.996 query-errors: info: client @0x4c576ab4280 10.0.0.131#40799 (forum.openwrt.org): query failed (SERVFAIL) for forum.openwrt.org/IN/AAAA at query.c:7098

I see there are some other messages about problems with 9.18.29, but I think this problem has been going on longer than that.

Any suggestions? Thanks.
