Thanks for the reply! I am very interested in algorithms, in fact this is the major reason for me to study computer science. I have taken some advanced algorithms courses in my school so hopefully that would be helpful. However, as I just started looking into the bioinformatics field, my biology background is rather limited.
For the sequence alignment code that you mentioned, do you think the improvement would be do-able in a month? I wouldn't mind working on it for longer if needed, but I would need to show some work to my professor no later than December in order to pass the course. Or if you think the BLAST output parser would be a better task based on my skills/time commitment, it would be fine as well! Thanks again and hope I can contribute in some way!
