RIP protocol packet maximum length checking

Hi,
  I noticed that you have defined RIP_MAX_PKT_LENGTH = 532 in rip.h. It seems 
that this value isn’t used. So I am wondering how do you check the maximum 
length in RIP protocol implementation, thanks
