Yesterday Pete Chapman joined me in a 'Crop tour' down to the Bothwell
area of Lambton county.
We had several flocks of SNOW BUNTINGS and one flock had a
LAPLAND LONGSPUR Another Flock had 6 AM. PIPITS.
While birding around the Pinery this morning, a group of TUNDRA
SWANS landed in the field beside Greenway Rd. We have had small groups
flying over, prospecting, but these are the first to land on the freshly
uncovered soil. Up to 21,000 at once has been the peak number counted in
the last two years. A real Spectacle. Don't wait to go and see them
because although they arrived last year on Feb 14th. by Mar 14th. they had
all left to WNW. If they follow the usual routine, they will have almost
all moved on in 3 weeks. Check into the Heritage museum for displays and
also into the Pinery
A SANDHILL CRANE circled the river below the dam in the Pinery
calling loudly around mid-day. Also a GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET was in the
tree in Picnic area #9 where the TUFTED TITMOUSE has been launching it's
feeding sallies onto my hand.
DIRECTIONS-
I could not find the pipit fields again if I tried. The Pinery
Provincial Park is situated south of Grand Bend on Hwy. 21 in Lambon
County, Ont.
Wow. Spring is HERE!
Good Birding, Alf.
