  Highlights of reports received March 27 through April 3 from 
  the Niagara Frontier Region include FOX SPARROW, VESPER 
  SPARROW, BARN SWALLOW PECTORAL SANDPIPER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS 
  and TRUMPETER SWANS. 

  Migrating FOX SPARROWS were widely reported this week. Seven 
  FOX SPARROWS at a feeder on Beech Tree Road in Ashford, four 
  at Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo, two at Lakeside 
  Memorial Park in Hamburg, and single FOX SPARROWS in South 
  Wales and Kenmore. 

  March 28, 2 VESPER SPARROWS were found along Route 18, east 
  of Niagara-Orleans Countyline Road on the BOS field trip to 
  the Lake Ontario Plains. Also on the trip, an early BARN 
  SWALLOW over Lake Ontario at Barker Park in Somerset. 29 
  RED-NECKED GREBES, NORTHERN HARRIER and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at 
  Shadigee in Yates. On Somerset-Hartland Townline Road, 
  NORTHERN SHRIKE and SAVANNAH SPARROW. In Somerset, along 
  Lovers Lane Road, several RED-BELLIED WDPKRS., EASTERN 
  PHOEBE, 2 GOLDEN-CR. KINGLETS and 4 YELLOW-R. WARBLERS. 
  EASTERN MEADOWLARKS were seen and heard at several 
  locations, and an unusual observation on the field trip of a 
  small flock of BONAPARTE'S GULLS feeding in a corn field and 
  on the shoulder of Marshall Road in Yates. 

  GREATER YELLOWLEGS were first reported this spring on March 
  31, a flock of 5 at Route 63 and Oak Orchard Ridge Road in 
  the Iroquois Refuge, along with 4 WILSON'S SNIPE. Seven more 
  snipe plus KILLDEER and EASTERN MEADOWLARKS were noted at 
  the abandoned Nike base in Hamburg. It was also noted that 
  AMERICAN WOODCOCKS are performing their courtship displays 
  at dusk and dawn throughout the region. 

  Tagged TRUMPETER SWANS have been reported on small ponds 
  recently. Two TRUMPETER SWANS in Lancaster near Aurora 
  Street on March 24. In the Cattaraugus County Town of 
  Freedom, a TRUMPETER SWAN on a pond along Route 98 north of 
  Crystal Lake on March 27, and April 1 and 2, a TRUMPETER 
  SWAN on a pond in Elma. 

  March 31 at the Batavia Waste Water Plant, 3 HORNED GREBES, 
  7 GREAT BLUE HERONS, RING-NECKED DUCK, 37 LESSER SCAUP, 40 
  BUFFLEHEADS, 3 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 4 HOODED MERGANSERS, 5 
  RED-BR. MERGANSERS, 83 RUDDY DUCKS and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS. 
  At Cayuga Pool in the Iroquois Refuge, 2 GADWALLS, 3 GREEN-
  WINGED TEALS, 6 RUDDY DUCKS, 19 AMERICAN COOTS and BALD 
  EAGLE on nest. And in the Tonawanda Management Area, 5 
  REDHEADS. 

  Other reports this week, 19 RED-NECKED GREBES still on the 
  Niagara River at Fort Erie, Ontario. At Tifft Nature 
  Preserve, 2 RED-NECKED GREBES plus BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERON and 2 
  WINTER WRENS. Over 100 BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERONS above the 
  Canadian Falls. PEREGRINE FALCONS on the nest at the Statler 
  Building in Buffalo. PERGRINE FALCON on the heating plant 
  chimney on the UB Main Street Campus. 1324 raptors over the 
  Hamburg hawkwatch on March 28. And the arrival of EASTERN 
  PHOEBES and NORTHERN FLICKERS continues to be noted.
