Hi Ontbirders

While woodcocks have been back for some time, the foot or so of new
snow/ice is making it tough for them. This afternoon in a drive from
the lighthouse to the camp office I saw seven probing in the few open
pools available - mostly ditches and drainage trenches. I also found
the remains of one that had been eaten by a raptor, plus Don and Ian
Shanahan told me they had one sitting on Bayshore Rd, near Salt Point.
They seem fairly tame, which likely means they are not happy woodcocks.
Lets hope it warms up a bit before they succumb.
