Report for April 24, 2003 (Thursday): This morning's frost was a clear indicator that any new migration was minimal. This morning's 2-mile hike, for example, failed to see a single warbler (!) although one got away unidentified. However, the arrival of warmer weather this weekend should spark some significant migration (including warblers).
Significant recent sightings: Worm-eating Warbler (1) over the weekend on Tulip Tree Trail Sandhill Crane (5) on April 24 -- over Marsh Trail. Throughout the park there are numbers of Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Hermit Thrush, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Eastern Towhee, etc., and lesser numbers of Brown Thrasher, Blue-headed Vireo, Pine Warbler, etc. Shorebirds in the area include Dunlin, Greater Yellowlegs and Lesser Yellowlegs.
