On April 28th, Mark Cranford posted a message for Tara Allen about a
Yellow-headed Blackbird coming to her feeder at their residence near
Bismark. Marcie Jacklin has been in communication with Mrs Allen over the
past few days, and was told the bird was still visiting their side yard
feeders. Marcie, Jeremy and I drove out this evening to look for the bird.

We were not disappointed!!

For the past few days the bird has been arriving at the feeders between 6:45
and 7:30 pm every evening. Tonight this adult male arrived at 7:20 pm, and
using the car as a blind, we watched it feed on the ground below the feeders
for about 15 minutes. Usually there are cowbirds, grackles and red-wing
blackbirds at the feeders, so getting out of the car will likely flush all
the birds. I believe the bird is not being seen during the day.

I spoke with Mrs. Allen and asked if it would be ok for birders to come and
view this rare for Niagara bird. She made it very clear that birders were
certainly WELCOME provided there was NO TRESPASSING onto their property.
The feeders are on the west side of the residence, and can very easily be
seen from the gravel roadside. They do not want anyone driving down their
driveway....stay well to the right on the gravel roadside of this busy
highway.

The residence address is 4832 Highway #20, just east of the hamlet of
Bismark. From Smithville, proceed east on Highway 20 some 5 kms to the
flashing red light at Bismark. Turn left here continuing east on Hwy 20 to
the residence, a white house on the south side of the highway about 1km
east.
