Good morning,

Foggy conditions and generally poor visibility made observations more
challenging this morning. Thunder could be heard regularly in the morning
and may still move through the area. Songbird activity was patchy. Some
places had lots of warblers, most moving high up in the treetops.,
whereas other spots were generally quiet. Nevertheless, a few interesting
observations have been reported. These included:

"Lawrence's" Warbler - (1) - Tip train stop
Red-necked Grebe - (1) - Tip
American Bittern - (1) - Marsh Boardwalk
Sora - (1) - Marsh Boardwalk
Black Tern - (1) - Marsh Boardwalk
Eastern Wood-Pewee - (1) - Tip area
American Pipit - (4) - Tip and flying overhead
Bobolink - (4) - Tip and elsewhere
Northern Parula - (1) - Woodland Nature Trail (W.N.T.)
Blue-winged Warbler - (2) - W.N.T.
Golden-winged Warbler - (1) - W.N.T.
Blackpoll - (1) - W.N.T. (first of the spring)
American Redstart - (2) - W.N.T. and Tilden's Woods
Yellow-throated Vireo - (1) - W.N.T.
Scarlet Tanager - (several) - W.N.T.
Hooded Warbler - (1) - Post Woods

Also reported yesterday (May 6) were:

Golden Eagle - (1 imm.) - This very rare spring migrant was seen flying
north
Clay-colored Sparrow - (1) - West Beach trail south of the Visitor Centre
Grasshopper Sparrow - (1) - West Beach trail south of the Visitor Centre
Common Nighthawk - (1) - Sanctuary (first report for the spring)
Mississippi Kite - (1 adult) - Reported flying north at DeLaurier. Not
reported again.
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher - (1) - Park entrance at 7:00 p.m. A rare bird
report was filed but not observed multiple groups

Weather conditions are going to remain somewhat unsettled for the
remainder of the day, clearing some time early tomorrow. However, the
light north winds will not likely bring many more birds in for tomorrow.
As soon as things warm up, many new migrants are expected to arrive in
the Park. In the mean time there is still lots to look at, provided one
visits more that one spot in the Park.

Good Birding,
