RARE BIRD REPORT
Bruce Ripley reported: EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE first observed at 9:30 a.m. in
the area of the Marysville Catholic Church on highway 2. It was seen on top
of the church and on top of the house just west of the church and was seen
twice on the north side of the highway on the hydro lines as well as the
spruce trees at the house across from the church. It was later relocated at
10:30 a.m. with Albert Boisvert. Latest sightings: May 6, May 8 & May 9.
DIRECTIONS: Take 401 Hwy to exit 566 and go south on Hwy 49 to Old Hwy 2 and
then right on Hwy 2, for 2.7 km. to the Marysville Catholic Church.

BLUEBIRD, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK & BROWN THRASHER on Chaffey's Lock Rd.
Then N. WATERTHRUSH, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, C. LOON, AM. BITTERN,
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK On Opinicon Rd.
Near Fermoy and on The Canoe Lake Rd.: RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, VIRGINIA RAIL,
BROAD-WINGED HAWK, AM. BITTERN, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, PURPLE FINCH,
BALTIMORE ORIOLE, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER AND LEAST FLYCATCHER.
PRINCE EDWARD POINT, [page 35, quads G52 & 53]
The KFN Field Trip to PR. EDW. PT. May 4, '03 was led by Ron Weir & Martin
Edwards: Highlights were: a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW, 2 UPLAND SANDPIPER,
WILSON'S SNIPE and 4 E. BLUEBIRDS on Babylon Rd., a LARK SPARROW and a
CHIMNEY SWIFT at the lookout east of Ducks Dive. At the Traverse Woods: a
WHIP-POOR-WILL flew onto a log for all to see, a LEAST FLYCATCHER, YELLOW
WARBLERS and 2 E. KINGBIRDS, 2 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, 2 BOBOLINK and A SANDHILL
CRANE heard near the Traverse Woods. A BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER and many CLIFF
SWALLOWS were by the Lighthouse.
LITTLE CATARAQUI CREEK VALLEY LANDS TRAIL

At the Foot of the Rideau Trail on May 5, around 9:00 a.m. both Ken Edwards
Jr. and Sr. and Mary Edwards and I found warblers: NASHVILLE, YELLOW,
CHESTNUT-SIDED, BLACK-THROATED BLUE, YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACK-THROATED GREEN,
PINE, PALM, BLACK-AND -WHITE, and AM. REDSTART. An AM. BITTERN was in the
marsh by the boardwalk on the trail.
Matthew Koch reported on May 7, two Kingston Field Naturalists walks at the
Little Cataraqui Valley Lands Trail produced Warblers: BLACK-THROATED GREEN
(many), BLACK-THROATED BLUE (3), BLACK-AND-WHITE (6), BLACKBURNIAN (5),
YELLOW (1), NASHVILLE (many), YELLOW-RUMPED (4), MAGNOLIA (1), and
CHESNUT-SIDED (1) and PARULA (3). Also seen were BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, (3)
GRAY CATBIRDS (3), BROWN THRASHERS, SORAS, WINTER WREN (1). A VIRGINIA RAIL
was heard, WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS (many), WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS (2), SWAMP
SPARROW (4), ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS (3), AMERICAN BITTERN (1). At Squaw
Point: a GREAT HORNED OWL and a SWAINSON'S THRUSH.
OTHER SIGHTINGS
Kurt Hennige reported for May 4, '03: 1 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK at his feeder
on Hwy 4, north of Millhaven.
