Report for May 15, 2003 (Thursday): Cool temperatures and east winds are creating poor conditions for birding this morning, but the improving weather predicted for this afternoon will also improve the birding. Reported so far today are the following:
BLUE GROSBEAK -- the female bird is still present on South Point Trail take Lakeshore Road south to where it ends, walk about 1 km south until you reach a bench on the beach the bird habitually feeds in the tall dune grasses. PROTHONOTARY WARBLER -- one is again present on Bennett Road. BIRDS SEEN YESTERDAY (May 14): FISH CROW -- There have been no further sightings since early yesterday. The sunset chorus last night along South Point Trail was impressive. Birds singing and/or calling include Wood Thrush, American Woodcock, Great Horned Owl and Whip-poor-will (at least 12, from there north to the Visitor Centre another 6 calling birds were present along Gardiner Road and the S end of Rondeau Road). Unfortunately, no Chuck-wills-widows (yet). Also yesterday (late), two Clay-colored Sparrows were present at the Rondeau Yacht Club on Water Street (within Rondeau Park). An adult LITTLE BLUE HERON was reported on Spicebush Trail, but was not observed by anyone other than the discovering party.
