July 10 through July 17 was a quiet week for reports from
  the Niagara Frontier Region.

The highlight was on July 15, when a male GOLDEN-WING.
WARBLER was discovered at Nature View Park in the Town of
Amherst. This uncommon and decreasing warbler species was
found by following an obscure dirt road on the north side of
North French Road between Sweethome and Campbell Blvd. The
road is marked by a sign for an archery range. Drive to the
end of the road to a parking area, where there is a network
of trails. The GOLDEN-WING. WARBLER was in a brush area near
the power lines. An impressive count of over 80 breeding
species have been found in the Nature View Park, including
  RED-TAILED HAWK, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO,
BL.-GR. GNATCATCHER, "BREWSTER'S WARBLER" and many BLUE-
  WINGED WARBLERS.

Breeding Bird Atlas studies in the Niagara County Towns of
Hartland and Royalton were highlighted by the confirmation
of YELLOW-B. SAPSUCKERS breeding near Middleport. In the
Niagara Frontier, sapsuckers were previously known to breed
only at higher elevations than the Lake Ontario Plains.
Other breeding species in Hartland included RED-EYED VIREO,
TUFTED TITMOUSE, AMERICAN REDSTART, HOODED WARBLER, SCARLET
  TANAGER and NORTHERN CARDINAL.

Also this week, a GREAT EGRET at a pond in a yard in the
  Town of Pendleton.

Dial-a-Bird will be updated Thursday evening, July 24.
Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may
report sightings after the tone. Thank you for calling and
  reporting to Dial-a-Bird.
