Ontbirders;
One of the cells at the Winchester Sewage Lagoon in Eastern Ontario has been
partially drained creating excellent shorebird habitat. Today (Sunday July
27) there were several hundred peep (Semipalmated and Least), 70 Lesser
Yellowlegs, several Semipalmated Plover, 3 Stilt Sandpiper and a
Short-billed Dowitcher. There were several juvenile Lesser Yellowlegs and
Least Sandpipers. The good habitat at the Chesterville Lagoons has been
flooded but some edge habitat remains with about 50 peep and a few Lesser
Yellowlegs and Solitary Sandpipers.
While Atlassing earlier in the day in the Finch square I found a family of
Wild Turkey ("FY") and there was a covey of Gray Partridge along a side road
near the Winchester Lagoon.
Winchester is located off highway 31 south of Ottawa, once in town head
north on Ottawa Street, when you get to a T junction turn right, the lagoons
are easily visible on your right.
