Shorebirds continue to be the focus of recent sightings in the Hamilton area. No less than 13 species were reported from the Grimsby Sewage Lagoons this past week, including WILSON'S PHALAROPE, RUDDY TURNSTONE, WHIMBREL, KILLDEER, SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER, GREATER & LESSER YELLOWLEGS, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, STILT SANDPIPER, SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, and SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER. Elsewhere, an adult BAIRD'S SANDPIPER turned up at Tollgate Ponds, along with SANDERLING, STILT SANDPIPER, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, SEMI-PALMATED and LEAST SANDPIPER. Other local reports include SANDHILL CRANE at Grass Lake, a dozen RED-NECKED GREBES at Bronte Harbour, plus GREAT BLUE HERON and SPOTTED SANDPIPER at Shoreacres/Paletta Park.
