Hello all,
I just moved up to Tobermory on Wednesday, and, on Friday evening while
driving back to my new home, two shrikes flew across the road in front of
me. Although I was unable to relocate them in order to get a positive i.d.,
given the time of year and the fact that there were two together, they are
probably Loggerheads. This morning (Saturday), I again saw one shrike
perched on a wire in the same spot but it flew a great distance as soon as I
stopped the car.
Anyone spending Thanksgiving up on the Bruce, might want to check these
birds out.
Directions: Take Warner Bay Rd. SW from Hwy 6 a few kilometres before the
town of Tobermory (right across from the Stone Orchid restaurant). The
birds were in the fields near house #269 and further SW from there. Other
things in the same area incliude lots of American Pipits, White-crowned
Sparrows, and Palm Warblers & one young Red-headed Woodpecker.
