Saturday, Nov.1 was a very busy day at the CMRW platform. At least 50 people came down, many having great looks at a COMMON RAVEN fly by us at 11:55. Among the non-raptors were 3 Fox Sparrows, N.Shrike (north end of Hall's Rd.), both Yellowlegs, Pectoral Sandpipers, Dunlins, Wilson's Snipe, Horned Lark, many R-w Blackbirds and Ladybird Beetles, white Snow Geese, 1 Blue Goose, Y-r Warbler, -----
We enjoyed the manoeverings of a "resident" Peregrine in its attempts to corral everything from Ducks to Geese to the Snipe. The 8-day "resident" juvenile Bald Eagle was "picked up" by an incoming partner, and the 2 finally elected to fly off westward; we shall see if he/she returns. I THANK EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN HELPING WITH THE COUNT AND IN THE EDUCATING OF VISITORS. Below is a raptor count for Saturday Nov.1 and, in brackets the total up to & incl. Sunday, Nov.2(a rained-out day): Turkey Vulture 2 (2316) Osprey 1 (123) Bald Eagle 3 (44) N.Harrier 4 (247) Sharp-shinned 16 (1906) Cooper's 2 (77) N.Goshawk - (18) Red-shouldered 1 (170) Broad-winged - (276) Red-tailed 178 (1209) Rough-legged 12 (38) Golden Eagle 3 (6) Am.Kestrel 1 (587) Merlin - (48) Peregrine Falcon - (31) Unidentified 6 (264) TOTAL 229 (7462) CMRW is at the base of Hall's Rd., accessed from Victoria St., in southwest Whitby, ON Doug Lockrey, coordinator CMRW "Doug Lockrey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Visit http://www.ofo.ca/ontbirdsguide.htm for information on leaving and joining the list.
