Hello there Today Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 Stan Bajurny and I left Cranberry Marsh after 5 hours of Hawk and Eagle watching, sans Cave Swallow and headed down to St Catherines to hopefully find the reported Cattle Egret but we had no luck finding it.
We then drove around for awhile and after spotting a large tractor (surrounded by Gulls) plowing a field we stopped to glass the area in hopes of finding the Egret. We gave up on that endeavor and as we sat there pondering our next move all the Gulls took flight and I jokingly asked what's above them an Eagle ? Stan said no but that a large raptor was flying through the flock and on checking it we were greatly surprised to see a Gray Morph Gyrfalcon flying past carrying prey. It flew north towards Lake Gibson where we lost it. We were parked just north of Beaverdams Rd on Merrittville Hwy and the bird was no more than 200 yards in front of us to start with. DIRECTIONS Driving from the Hamilton area on the QEW exit at #49 onto Hwy 406 and drive south to Glendale Ave. Drive west on Glendale to Glenridge Ave. Turn left (south) on Glenridge and drive down until it becomes Merrittville Hwy. Continue on to Lake Gibson and start looking. "Norm Murr" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Visit http://www.ofo.ca/ontbirdsguide.htm for information on leaving and joining the list.
