Since November 9 the weather conditions have slowed the hawk migration along the north shore of Lake Ontario. However we are still anticipating another wave of raptors. The pathway and trees below and around our platform have been a great refuge for many songbirds. Today's (Nov.12) highlights were a male Purple Finch, both Nuthatches and 6 sparrow species. 3 White-tailed Deer were noted at 0830.
LET ME THANK THE 80 VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE BEEN HELPING AT CMRW THIS FALL. SEPTEMBER'S BROAD-WINGED COUNT WAS VERY LOW, BUT THE WINDS OF OCTOBER AND EARLY NOVEMBER HAVE BROUGHT ABOVE-AVERAGE NUMBERS OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING: Turkey Vulture, Osprey, N.Harrier, Bald Eagle, N.Goshawk, Red-shouldered, Red-tailed, Golden Eagle, Merlin and Peregrine. AND WE ARE NOT THROUGH YET--WE GO THROUGH TO NOVEMBER 30. CMRW is at the base of Hall's Rd., accessed from Victoria St. in southwest Whitby.
