The c-c-cold westerly wind doth blow AND we shall have--- REDPOLLS. Around
10AM, while viewing several hovering Red-taileds 2 of us heard and watched
perhaps 5 Common Redpolls atop the ash tree right at our Cranberry Marsh RW
viewing platform; a Pine Siskin was heard also. A Greater Yellowlegs was
picked up flying west over the north end of the wetland. We have had House
and Purple Finches lately.
Our path-feeding birds at present are: 20 or more Tree, several
White-throated and White-crowned, 1 Fox and 3 Song Sparrows, along with many
Juncos, Cardinal, Blue Jays and Red-winged Blackbirds.

Migrant raptors over a 3-hour period were-- 2 Sharp-shinned, 1 Cooper's, 4
Red-tailed and 1 Rough-legged Hawk.

To date the following hawks are above the 14-year average in numbers
migrating through-- Turkey Vulture, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier,
Northern Goshawk, Cooper's, Red-shouldered, Merlin and Peregrine.

Cranberry Marsh is at the foot of Hall's Rd., accessed from Victoria St. in
southwest Whitby, ON
