Hi Ontbirders,
Today, Kevin McLaughlin and I birded the Niagara River, starting at Adam
Beck at 9:00 a.m. Here are the highlights:
1 adult California Gull morning and afternoon flying and perched on rocks
at left side of American dam.
5 adult Iceland Gulls with wingtip coloration ranging from blackish to very
pale.
1 classic adult Thayer's Gull at Adam Beck.
4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, one at Adam Beck and three above the Falls.
1 adult Little Gull in the gorge left of the American Falls.
2 Dunlin on rocks in middle of river, seen from Chippewa pulloff.
1 injured Brant close to shore above the Falls between the Toronto Hydro
building and the Gatehouse.
Glenn Coady saw a Glaucous Gull early this morning at Adam Beck.
Directions: From QEW take 405 to Niagara River Parkway. Turn right for
about 1.5 km to the Adam Beck lookout. Then follow the Niagara River
Parkway south to Chippewa, stopping anywhere you can park to see the river.
Good birding,
Jean Iron
