First day of winter listing began with the RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD which was
observed at 10:00a.m. after about a thirty minute wait.
On Amherst Island on the east end KFN property there was 1 DUNLIN, 2
HORNED GREBE, 1 AMERICAN PIPIT, 1 BRANT, 1 SNOWY OWL and a BALD EAGLE. In
the Owl Woods there was 1 EVENING GROSBEAK, 1 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL and
about 30 (possibly more) LONG-EARED OWLS.
Unfortunately, the day ended with an injured ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK which I
picked up and took to the Avian Care and Research Foundation. Kit Chubb
determined that the bird was beyond repair and it had to be euthanized.
