For those who wish to bird in the comfort of their cars during the winter months consider visiting the setup at the entry to the south pathway to Cranberry Marsh in southwest Whitby. As per Dec.7 it is comprised of a large new platform feeder on a post, 2 hanging niger feeders, a hanging suet feeder and feed placed regularly on the pathway entrance. As the birds get used to this setup more feeders will likely be placed.
Some recent birds to these feeders--as many as 4 Red-breasted Nuthatches, Goldfinches, Juncos, Chickadees, female Purple Finch. There have been Common Redpolls, 1 Hoary Redpoll and Pine Siskins, BUT they are appearing rather infrequently so far. Among the birds that sre still coming to the feeding station at the marsh edge--1 adult and 2-3 imm.White-crowneds, Swamp Sp., Song Sp., Tree Sp. and White-breasted Nuthatches.
