Highlights of reports received December 18 through December
26 from the Niagara Frontier Region include LAUGHING GULL,
  HARLEQUIN DUCK and RED-NECKED GREBE.

December 21, a first winter LAUGHING GULL was found on the
Niagara River at Gratwick Park, on River Road in North
Tonawanda. The gull was roosting with RING-BILLED GULLS and
  has not been relocated.

The same date at the control gates above Niagara Falls in
Ontario, a female HARLEQUIN DUCK was among a flock of scaup.
  Also at the gates area, 3 RED-NECKED GREBES, 6 L. BLACK-B.
GULLS, and a MERLIN was at the pines near the water intake
  structures.

December 20, a CALIFORNIA GULL was reported at the control
gates, likely a different bird than the one that has been a
regular at the power plants. There have also been several
ICELAND GULLS, L. BLACK-B. GULLS and GLAUCOUS GULLS at the
plants, and LITTLE GULLS at Queenston. And, at Dufferine
Islands, above the falls, WOOD DUCK and NORTHERN PINTAIL.

December 21, on the BOS Christmas Count, centered on Grand
Island, one section reported 32 species highlighted by a
NOR. SAW-WHET OWL, plus numbers of RED-BELLIED WDPKR., AMER.
TREE SPARROW, WHITE-THR. SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO, NORTHERN
CARDINAL, HOUSE FINCH and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH. Also on Grand
Island, on the west side of Buckhorn Island State Park, 2
WILD TURKEYS and 2 NORTHERN FLICKERS.

And in Tonawanda this week, on Ensminger Road, a flock of 20
  BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS.

Dial-a-Bird will be updated on Friday, January 2. Please
call in your sightings by Friday. You may report sightings
after the tone. Thank you for calling and reporting to Dial-
  a-Bird.
