Hello Ontbirders,

On December 26th, my Dad and I observed a Brant, an
adult Lesser Black-backed Gull and an immature Iceland
Gull at Port Stanley. The birds were seen in the late
afternoon on the western breakwall. Also of some
interest were 3 Field Sparrows seen near at the base
of the western pier.

To view these birds turn south on the road immediately
west of the lift bridge in Port Stanley. Keep left
along the river channel until you reach a dead end in
a parking lot near the river mouth. The Field Sparrows
were on the south side of the parking area (with Song
and American Tree Sparrows). Walk out on the pier for
good views of both breakwalls. The gulls and Brant
were roosting on the west wall initially but were in
the process of shifting to the east wall for the night
at around 5:30 pm.

Good birding,

Jeff
