The Almont Hawk Owl was located perched on a wire by the roadside near #283 Old Union Hall Road this afternoon just before 4:00pm by my son, Andrew, and myself. Shortly after preening itself with its talons, the bird flew off to the North, and perched up in a deciduous tree some 100m away. It flew in the typical Hawk Owl style -- dropping low to the ground, flying with rapid wingbeats, (looking much like a falcon) before swooping up to its next perch. It only stayed here a couple of minutes before flying South-East towards the farm building. We then lost sight of it, and we did not manage to locate it over the next ten minutes. A good, but brief sighting of a beautiful bird!
