Yesterday afternoon (Jan.31) I observed a mixed flock of Snow Buntings (approx. 20) and Horned Larks (approx. 40) on the west side of MacGillvray Road, about 3kms north of Rutherford Road. They were in the field just north of (and across the road from) the farm that sits on the east side of the road. Following MacGillvray to where it bends westward, I observed a smaller mixed flock of the same two species as they flew northward and crossed the railroad tracks.
At Huntington Road (which runs parallel to Highway 50 a few kms. eastward) I turned south, eventually crossing Rutherford Road There were two American Kestrels along this stretch and, across from where Fogal Road meets Huntington, there was a light-phase Rough-legged Hawk perched at the eastern end of a long snow-covered laneway. This area is northeast of the intersection of Hwys. 50 & 7, just above Woodbridge and southwest of Kleinburg. Ron Fleming, Newmarket "Ronald J.
