Good afternoon everyone. While checking out all the waterfowl on the Detroit River from the Lakeview Park Marina at the mouth of Little River, I noticed some peculiar geese on the shore of Peche Island. They had bright orange legs and appeared to be at least part Greater White-fronted Goose. As luck would have it, the birds (five in all) eventually swam across the river to the marina and my brother Robert and I were able to study them closely from distances as close as twenty-five feet. There was no question that the darkest of the bunch was a Greater White-fronted X Canada Goose hybrid, while the other four, which were very bizarre-looking, each one distinct from the other three, appeared to be Greater White-fronted X Snow Goose. I have no idea how common either of these hybrids are, but to find 5 of them together, comprising both mixes, seems quite amazing. We eventually lost track of them after we resumed checking out the hundreds of ducks present, but they should still be there as I write, or somewhere nearby.

Lakeview Park Marina is located at the east side of Windsor where Riverside drive East intersects Riverdale. An adult Bald Eagle or two can often be seen roosting in the trees on Peche Island (we had one today) as well. Randy Horvath, Windsor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
