Greetings,

Ian Shanahan and I heard a Sandhill Crane calling, presumably while in
flight, from somewhere south of Coot Lookout this morning at about
0845h. It must have been fairly low as we were never able to see it (a
forest blocks the low horizon). It started to rain shortly afterwards
so it might have put down somewhere nearby - probable sites to check
would be the marshes in the Fingers, maybe the beach or possibly Huff
Rd. just NW the park.

The ducks in the inner bay were pretty much the same as yesterday, but
great viewing none-the-less.

Cheers,

Doug McRae

Directions: Presqu'ile can be reached by taking the Cty Rd. 30
(Brighton) exit from Hwy 401 south through the town, then follow the
provincial park signs to the gate. Coot Lookout is an informal name
given to a pull over opposite the outer marsh. To reach it continue
straight ahead on Bayshore Rd (rather than turn right toward the
Campground Office area). After the first half dozen homes on the left
you will see a gravel pull over about 200m beyond last house and that is
"Coot Lookout", named so because it is one of the main vantage points to
search for the few pairs of nesting coots.
