The Ross's Goose found by Angela and Gary Martin earlier this week, and reported to Ontbirds by Dick Tafel was still present on the morning of April 4.
The bird is located at the West Arm of Lake Nipissing in the District of Sudbury. It is present with Canada Geese and a variety of other waterfowl. It is the first record for this species in the District of North Bay and the North Bay birding area. Directions from South Take Highway 400 north, then take Highway 69 north past Parry Sound. After crossing the French River take Highway 64 to Alban (to the northeast). Follow Highway 64 through Noelville, and Monetville until you come to a bridge named the West Arm Bridge. There are actually two bridges which permit the highway to pass over an island. After crossing the southern bridge you will go past Langs Road. A very short distance later is the MTO picnic area on the left or west side of the road. There are two driveways into the picnic area. Take the second driveway. You will go down a short grade to the parking area on the edge of the water. The Ross's Goose today was in the open water to the west and also feeding on the north shore of the open water area.
