On May 2 at 6pm I found a Yellow-breasted Chat in Shell Park, Bronte(
south-west Oakville). The bird was along the creek between the two bridges
opposite the concrete water outlet. The bird was very skulky as I could not
find it 10 minutes later. Among the 11 species of warblers in the area were
Orange-crowned, Chestnut-sided and my first female Black & Whites. A male
Indigo Bunting, Chimney Swift, Catbird, Veery, Least Sandpiper were also new
for me today. Off Bronte Harbour were about 3,000 cormorants, being harassed by
many Herring Gulls and one juvenile Glaucous Gull. Quite a sight!
Directions; lets see if I can get it right this time.
At the QEW in Oakville take the Burloak Drive exit south to Lakeshore Road,
turn left or east at the lights and proceed abotu 1.5 km to the Shell Park
entrance on the left. Another kilometer further is Bronte Harbour, accessed by
either West River St. or Bronte Road on the right.
Good Birding,

Hello Ontbirders

Bernie Ladouceur, Daniele Mitchell, Alex Stone, Andrew Sonea, and myself,
went birding today to many locations east of Ottawa.
We had a tremendous day, ending with a total of 120 species before dinner.

The highlight was a female Ruff (Reeve) originally spotted by Bernie at
3:30pm in the Southwest cell of the Embrun Sewage Lagoon.

Other highlights during the day (and there were many) included 10 species of
warbler, 10 species of sparrow, several Wilsons Phalaropes, several Evening
Grosbeaks, a Sandhill Crane, and a Red Crossbill.

To reach Embrun Sewage Lagoon from Highway 417 (The Queensway), 39 km east
of Ottawa, take exit 79 (Regional 5), labelled Limoges / Embrun. Proceed 2.5
km SSE on Regional 5 to Regional 3 or Notre Dame Street. Turn right or WSW
onto it and drive 2.8 km to St.-Joseph Road on the east edge of the town of
Embrun. Turn left or SSE on it and go 1.5 km to Route 400. Turn left or
northeast onto Route 400 and after about a kilometre the Embrun Sewage
Lagoons will be on your left (directions courtesy of Larry Neily).

Cheerio And Good Birding
Tony
