For anyone who has bluebird boxes it would likely be a good idea to check them. The cold wet weather of the last several weeks has caused significant mortality with both bluebirds and tree swallows. Today we removed dead tree swallows and two nests of young bluebirds partially feathered who had also sucumbed to the weather. On a happier note we observed a woodcock carrying a young bird between its legs. I have never observed this before but not suprisingly after checking Bents Life Histories it certainly identifies this behaviour in his literature. Dave Fidler Owen Sound, Ont
