Subject: Red-headed Woodpeckers north of Pakenham

On Saturday July 17, 2004 I saw at least two adult Red-headed
Woodpeckers at the junction of Shaw Road and North Pakenham Concession
12. This
is between Arnprior and Pakenham, and just inside the 50-km Ottawa
checklist circle (by just over a quarter kilometre). A resident there
said they have been there a least three years, perhaps longer, since
they
have only been there 3 years too. These birds are becoming increasingly
rare in our area.

Directions from Birding Ottawa: Shaw Road and North Pakenham Concession
12 <http://members.rogers.com/mississippi15.htm>. From Ottawa take
Highway 417 (The Queensway) northwest to Highway 17, then 17 northwest
to
the Galetta Side Road. Turn left or southwest onto it and drive 2.8 km
to where it becomes Highway 15 (Lanark 29). Then continue southwest for
another 1.1 km to leave Highway 15, but continue straight southwest
onto Shaw Road or Lanark 22. Continue 1.3 km further on it to the
junction
of Shaw Road and North Pakenham Concession 12.

* Note: Because this was sent from an account where I was not subscribed
to OntBirds, it was returned. If at first ... Cheers, Larry
