RED KNOT Red-necked Grebe Great Egret Blue-winged Teal Green-winged Teal Redhead American Wigeon Northern Harrier Red-shouldered Hawk Lesser Yellowlegs Sanderling Semipalmated Sandpiper Short-billed Dowitcher American Woodcock Bonaparte's Gull Yellow-throated Vireo Northern Waterthrush Hooded Warbler The HNC Report is a bit early this week but due to other commitments, I had to put it out today to get the news out from the weekend. A more exciting week/weekend in Hamilton with the best find being a group of 5 adult Red Knots found at Grimsby Sewage Lagoons yesterday. Adult birds are seldom seen on fall migration. Unfortunately, they were here and then gone as a search later on in the afternoon turned up nothing. There was however a Blue-winged Teal present with 9 young, Green Winged Teal, American Wigeon and three Redheads. Shorebirds seen included a Short-billed Dowitcher and a couple of Lesser Yellowlegs. Nearby at Fifty Point Conservation Area in Grimsby a Sanderling and 4 adult Bonapartes Gulls made a flyby. Tollgate ponds also had shorebirds this week with Sanderling, Semipalmated Sandpiper and Lesser Yellowlegs present. >From the Mississauga area, a Great Egret is present still at Rattray Marsh and 33 Red-necked Grebes were seen off the shoreline here. >From the Beverly Swamp area on 8th concession reports of an American Woodcock and Northern Waterthrush. The Northshore of Cootes Paradise is still home to a singing male Hooded Warbler (near Bull's Point) and a Yellow-throated Vireo was seen on the same birding trip. A Red-shouldered Hawk is still in the Shell Park area and has nested here successfully. A Northern Harrier was seen by the observer on the same outing. That's all the news for the short week.
