Shorebirding off Owen Point at Presqu'ile today offered at least nine species and encouraging numbers of juvenile birds. Age of birds is indicated where possible. Least Sandpiper - 22 juveniles (J), 3 adults (ad) Semipalmated Sandpiper - 12 J, 3 ad Sanderling - 4 J, 3 ad Ruddy Turnstone - 2 J, 1 ad Spotted Sandpiper - 1 J, 2 ad Greater Yellowlegs - 1 ad Black-bellied Plover - 4 ad Semipalmated Plover - 8 Baird's Sandpiper - 2 J (including a very grey bird) An intriguing flock of 40 -50 shorebirds could regularly be seen flying about the north shore of Gull Island, just out of scope range. Also in the neighbourhood were a Merlin and two juvenile Bonaparte's Gulls.
