Ontbirders,

I photographed an adult Thayer's Gull in Markham near Toronto today. The 17 October seems early for Thayer's, but there are records for the end of September in Ottawa. It would be early for Niagara. Thayer's often arrives in southern Ontario before Kumlien's Iceland Gulls. Bruce Mactavish told us that he saw his first Kumlien's Gull of the fall in Newfoundland today. It was a juvenile.

See today's photo of Thayer's http://www3.sympatico.ca/jeaniron/Thayersmark.htm

Also there were a juvenile/first winter, a second winter and an adult winter Lesser Black-backed Gulls.

Directions: Thousands of gulls are on the housing construction sites on both north and south sides of 16th Avenue between 9th Line and Markham Bypass in northeast Markham.
