Late this afternoon I birded the mouth of Joshua Creek (or Arkendo Park).
Since the creek is very low now, I forded it to check out the large grove of
mature evergreens on east bank. Within a few minutes a small flock of crows
flew in and started to mob the top of one the pines, and shortly, they
managed to flush three Long-eared Owls and one Great Horned Owl - and then a
Northern Goshawk flew across the creek and attacked one the Long-eared Owls.
On returning to my vehicle another fortuitous swarming of chickadees led me
to a North Saw-whet perched along a shrubby bank of the creek near the
parking area.

Arkendo Park is located at the end of the first residential street running
south off Lakeshore Road just west of the terminus of Winston Churchill
Boulevard. The primitive trail to the mouth of creek runs through some
heavy brush about 150 meters from the parking lot.

Hi all,
With appropriate winds, I spent most of the day birding at Point Edward with
Lance Allin and others. There were some highlights.
Two different juv. Black-legged Kittiwakes. The second one was a classic
in-close view. Both came from the east along the shoreline, and headed
north along the US side.
One female King Eider. This was seen near the US side floating down with
the current. It first appeared shortly after Sarah Rupert left. It would
float down with the current and fly back upstream.
A Black Scoter, not too common here, was quite often with it.
Two Red-necked Grebes were visible early in the day.
Not many gulls today. Less than 10 Bonaparte's early in the morning, and a
half dozen late in the day.
Several flocks of Snow Buntings were seen throughout the day.
Several other usual species of ducks were also seen.

Directions to Point Edward lighthouse: Find Front St. in Sarnia (along
river in downtown) and follow it to its very north end,1.2 km from 402
overpass. Turn left onto Victoria Ave. and travel 1.1 km to Fort St.
(right, north side). Go to end of street and you will see parking lot.

Blake Mann.
