Friday, Nov.12-- the parameters that tell the Golden-crowned to come onto the well-stocked pathway near the Cranberry Marsh Raptor Watch platform AND stay for more than a few seconds are-- 1) every 10-30 minutes, 2) people being fairly quiet and steady (no foot scuffling, arm waving), 3) quiet Blue Jay, and 4) other birds for company, not necessarily the Shrike!!--which we saw on Friday several times.
Several of us had him/her stay for nearly 5 minutes today twice. Along the north end of Hall's Rd. this AM--2 Shrikes, one chasing a Pileated Woodpecker. Migrating raptors today--1 N.Goshawk, 7 Red-tailed, 13 Rough-legged. Exit 401 at Salem, south to Bayly, east through LakeRidge to the first street (Hall's Rd.), south to the second roadside parking area. Doug Lockrey, coordinator CMRW
