Moor Great Gray Owl's in Toronto proper, having a great surprise with Bev joining me today we walk the hole of Tommy Thompson Park we did not get stop by the Rifleman but if the birder from Detroit could email me privately I wood love( and need ) to have moor info on this . We did find 2 Great Gray Owl's out in the park along with the same wintering birds reported in the past 3 days But NO Boreal owl and No King Eider. When we left we drove out along Cherry st. and found another Great Gray Owl at the corner of Commissioners st and Cherry st. I have to say that all I saw out looking at the Owls to day behaved them self's exceptionally well and keep a great distant from the birds. In addition to the 2 Great Gray Owls, I enjoyed the sight of a beautiful adult male Surf Scoter in a group of 11 Surf and White-windged scoters off the north tip of peninsula B. There was another group of 5 scoters off the west side of peninsula A (the end of the spit). A peregrine falcon, 2 red-tailed hawks, 3 kestrels, 5 song sparrows, and over 1 hundred redhead among the larger numbers of scaup, bufflehead, goldeneye, long-tailed ducks, pleasant weather, and the sight of over a hundred hikers enjoying the sight of the cooperative Great Gray Owl beside the road added to the enjoyment of the day. DIRECTIONS:- LESLIE STREET SPIT (TOMMY THOMPSON PARK) IN TORONTO By TTC: Take the Jones 83 bus south from Donlands subway station to Commissioners St. at Leslie and walk 0.5 km south (or take the streetcar (#501, 502 or 503) to Queen and Leslie Street and walk 1.2 km south) on Leslie Street to Unwin Avenue and you will see the gate and signage. By car you may drive to Leslie Street along Lakeshore Blvd from the Gardiner expressway, or along Kingston rd and Eastern Av from the east. Before 9 am you can park either on Leslie Street or Unwin Avenue. After 9 am the parking lot inside the gate should be open. Be sure to note the closing time as your car will be locked in at that time. NOTE:- The spit is only open on the weekends and on holidays. It is 7 km to the tip, but be prepared to walk more than that. Bob Kortright
