Camera-buffs have eased off, but there were 2 incidences today (Jan.9) when a photographer "had to chase" a Barred Owl up Hall's Rd.. Happily the bird elected to "escape" into the heavy woods. After a while he reappeared to rest--with the exception of 2 coughs(!!!!) people were quiet and watched from a good distance. A Great GRAY Owl sat in a distant tree across the fields west of the road, giving scope-folk wonderful views. A Great Horned Owl at the north end of the wetlands was ID'd with scopes from the north platform.
Hawks witnessed-- 1 dark-morph and 2 light-morph Rough-legged Hawks, several Red-tailed Hawks and 3 N.Harrier (1 adult male incl.) At the top of Hall's Rd.-- a few Rusty Blackbirds with several Red-wingeds, a Pileated Woodpecker. At the bird-feeder area-- Brown Creeper, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, 4 Robins, many Tree Sparrows. The Sandhill Crane was in the creek to the west of the Brock St. (Whitby) bridge throughout the AM. Doug Lockrey, Whitby -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
