Today,Sunday 16 January, there was a Red Headed Woodpecker on Whistler St in
Constance Bay, near Ottawa. This bird was at the burn site. At least two
birds have overwintered here after breeding this last year. These birds are
being seen regularly. Red Headed Woodpecker is an uncommon species in Ottawa
and wintering birds are rare.

This afternoon on Rideau Valley Drive near Manotick at the" Millers" Farm
there was a Red Bellied Woodpecker. This bird has apparently been present
for a period of time but is not always predictable as to when it is seen.

Great Gray Owls were once again in abundance in the Ottawa area on March
Valley Rd and at Kinburn Side Rd as well as on Rifle Rd at Shirleys Bay. I
met groups from Potsdam, New York and Massachusetts. They had seen multiple
owls and were obviously pleased with their birding visit to the Nation's
Capital.
