AMHERST I. [Pge 36, Quad't E54 & 55]
Jan. 16, Bruce, John & Justin Ripley birded 2 hours on Amherst Island
finding: 1 GREAT GRAY OWL, 2 BOREAL OWLS, 1 LONG-EARED OWL & 1 SNOWY OWL.
(other observers saw a GREAT HORNED OWL). Other sightings: 1 BROWN THRASHER,
2 COMMON REDPOLLS, 30 GADWALLS, 1 NORTHERN PINTAIL and 3 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS.
Bruce Di Labio Birded Amherst Island January 15th, and saw the 2 BOREAL
OWLS. Did a walk out to the gravel bar at the eastern end and had a good
number of puddle ducks including 520+ GADWALL, 4 AM. WIGEON, 4 N. PINTAIL
and a SNOWY OWL. Drove most of the roads on the island during the afternoon
and didn't see any hawks except for 2 ROUGH-LEGGED at the east end of the
KFN property. Saw another SNOWY OWL at the west end of the island and at
dusk 5 SHORT-EARED OWLS hunting over the fields opposite the KFN property.

January 16th, Bruce Di Labio birded Wolfe Island for the morning, highlights
included 3 SNOWY OWLS, 1 MERLIN, 3 N. HARRIER, 2 BALD EAGLES, 41 TUNDRA
SWAN, 35 SNOW BUNTING and 50+ COMMON REDPOLL. At DUPONT PLANT [Page 36,
Quads D55 & 56] on Jan. 16, Bruce Di Labio found 6 AM. COOT at the DuPont
Plant lagoon.
OTHER SIGHTINGS
At Cartwright Point: on Jan. 15 the E. SCREECH OWL was seen basking in the
entrance of the Owl Box across the road from #3 Woodpecker Lane and a TUFTED
TITMOUSE appeared briefly at the feeders at #14 The Point Road. We heard a
ROBIN on Jan. 16. CAROLINA WRENS are still occasionly seen or heard.

1.) From Kingston take Ontario St. (Hwy 2) east over the Cataraqui River
Causeway past the lights at Fort Henry.
2.) Continue east past Hwy 15 and the next traffic light at the MacDonalds
and turn right (south) off Hwy 2 at the next and last traffic lights at the
Vimy Gates and turn right (west) again after only 8 m. onto Caen Crescent.
Turn left (south) at the next road (Canal du Nord) and continue south past
Lundy's Lane to Casino Court.
3.) Follow Casino Court down the hill and on up the narrow paved road called
"The Point Rd."
4.) Turn right off The Point Rd. at #14 onto the lane leading west to the
Sachs house and feeders. Park on the paved pad by the garage or on the
grassy sides of the lane. Our phone is 547-6210.
Coming from 401 Hwy go south on Hwy. 15 (exit 623) and turn left (east) at
Hwy. 2. Follow same directions as from the second sentence above marked:
