This morning at 9:45 I saw a Snowy Owl sitting on the ground,in a Field. This
was on the South side of the 12th Line of New Tecumseth, west of the 10
Sideroad(Beeton Sideroad).at 4:20 this afternon it was in the same general
location only further from the road ontop of a Fence Post.
It is a very heavily Barred Bird either Female or Juvenal.

Also saw a Merlin take a Snow Bunting at the Railyard on the 12th. Line of New
Tecumseth, west of Tottenham Road. There is no public allowed on the Railway
Property, but there are a good number of Snow Buntings seen along the road here
aswell.

(From North or East) Hwy 89 to the 10th. Sideroad of New Tecumseth, turn
left(south) to 12th Line of New Tecumseth.West on 12th Line approx 1/4 mile on
Southside.Follow the 12th Line west past Tottenham Road to Train Tracks for the
Snow Buntings and Merlin!

(From the South or West)Hwy 9 to Tottenham Road.Turn north on Tottenham Road
through Tottenham and to the 12th Line of New Tecumseth.Turn right (East ) on
the 12th Line.Almost to the 10 th Sideroad on the South Side.
There are many Filds in this area that look Promising for Winter Owls.

   Ontbirders,

This winter has been a very wild one not only in Ontario with the
Pyrrhuloxia, Grey-crowned Rosy-Finch, and being up to your knees in
Great Grey Owls, but even across North America theres been some
exciting bird sightings!! This is just another addition to this
   ongoing saga!

This evening when a got home from school, my mom thought she saw a
weird looking stick, sticking out off a snow bank in front of our
window..I looked and saw that it was in fact a birds tail..I then ran
outside, pulled the tail out and after wiping off the snow I yelled
HOLY (COW) ITS A HARRISS SPARROW!!!!!!!!! The bird was in fact a 1^st
winter bird and was obviously a casualty from hitting our window.poor
thing..but a new yard bird, which makes that particular list around
   125.

Although Ive been only birding for about 13 years now, Ive never
seen/heard of such a wacky winter of birding across N. Americaand that
is only fueling my eagerness for all this snow to melt and start
another awesome year of spring birding here in the Pelee area!!! Cant
   wait!!!!!!

   Good Birding,

   Marianne Reid

We spent most of the day at the aforementioned two places.
Thanks to Doug Lockrey who was very helpful as always.
I would like to add to his report that we ended up counting=20
fifteen Great Gray Owls between the two places.
Even if we inadvertently counted one or two
of them twice, it is still an amazing number.
Also two Barred Owls and one Great Horned Owl.
Who could ask for any better day.

Direction as per Doug.
Cheers,
Marienna & Karl Egressy
