Thursday, Feb.10, along Hall's Rd.-- as many as 3 Great Gray Owls were seen
at sunup, but by 10a.m. they had drawn back into the wooded areas. Our
"resident" Barred Owl had a 2-sec. confrontation with the Lynde
birding-trail Barred Owl--as usual the latter "lost". Our BO alternated his
perching sites all morning. Then, around 11a.m., a male R-n Pheasant
srtrolled from under the north pathway spruce trees into a small open space,
when, suddenly the Owl flew diagonally down at him--the Pheasant saw him
coming, and as the owl was opening its wings prior to striking the pheasant
took off, flying over the woods to the south. Perhap 8 of us saw this event.
Meanwhile, over at the base of Lakeridge Rd., 2 people had seen an eagle
jumping up & down on an animal in the field, shortly thereafter carrying it
into a tree at the edge of he woods to the west of the road. Several of us
went over --we found an immature Bald Eagle on a horizontal branch, pulling
away at what turned out to be a Duck sp.-after 30 minutes, what was left was
either dropped or left hanging.as the Eagle flew northward. Quite a sight.

Also seen- N.Shrike, White-throated Sparrow, Brown Creeper among other
songbirds.

Harry Kerr saw 4 Rusty Blackbirds near the entrance to the of the Lynde
Shores bird-feeder trail.

Hall's Rd. and Lakeridge Rd. are entered south off Victoria/Bayly in
southwest Whitby.
