Hi birders,

This morning on the St. Lawrence River at Ivy Lea, there was a 1st winter

Ring-billed and the more numerous Herring Gulls.

The only ducks on the open water were several small groups of Common
Goldeneyes.

A Common Raven was seen along the 1000 Islands Parkway just west of the village
of Rockport.

Directions to Ivy Lea - Take exit 659 off Hwy 401 and head west on the Thousand
Island Parkway, turning south into the village of Ivy Lea at Ivy Lea Rd. Follow
the road through the village to the boat launching ramp.

OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE - FEB 13 2005 AT 7:00 PM

This is Chris Lewis reporting.

The most recent report of the TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE at #38 Rothwell
Dr. was from Feb. 11th. There are considerably fewer berries on
the Common Buckthorn bush at the end of the laneway, so the bird
may be feeding elsewhere in the neighbourhood. The Carolina Wren
near #112 Rothwell may also still be around, but has not been
reported since the 5th. The NORTHERN HAWK OWL along ski trail #29
at trail #5 approx. 1 km west/northwest of the Relais Plain-Air
sports centre at the southeast corner of Gatineau Park was still
easily found here on the 13th.

The male Wood Duck and one male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were on the
Rideau River behind the Tennis Club on the 13th and another male
Barrow's was on the Ottawa River at the Remic Rapids lookout on
the same day. A Greater Scaup has been present in Carleton Place
for over a month, on the Mississippi River near the dam near the
Town Hall.

As of Feb.12th, the dark-morph Red-tailed Hawk is still at the
Gatineau Airport.

The 12 GRAY PARTRIDGE were again seen at the northeast corner of
Moodie and Brophy Dr. on the 12th.

Three Snowy Owls were in the Ste-Rose area east of Casselman on
the 6th, and one Snowy was at the northeast corner of Akins and
Shea Rds. on the 12th. GREAT GRAY OWLS are still present but are
being reported in smaller numbers, again mainly in the Dunrobin
area along Kilmaurs and Kinburn Side Rds., March Valley Dr. and
the Shirley's Bay area in the west, and the Petrie Island area in
the east.

Both adult Red-headed Woodpeckers are still being seen at the old
burn site off Whistler Rd. in Constance Bay.

An incursion of Bohemian Waxwings may be taking place locally,
with small groups reported this past week from the Eardley-Masham
and Steele Rd. area at the west end of Gatineau Park, and a flock
of approx. 150 on the southeast side of the park on the 7th. and
approx. 60 here again on the 13th.

Finch reports were few, but included 6 Pine Grosbeaks in the
Shirley's Bay area on the 12th and a few Common Redpolls in
Gatineau Park on the 9th.

Thank you - Good Birding!
